Douglas (Bill) Hilliker. 1891-1986 was a Background Artist at Terrytoons from 1941-1961.



Biography[]

Bill Hilliker was born as Douglas Hagar Hilliker on May 25th, 1891. In San Fransisco, California to Henry and Daisy Hilliker (Nee: Douglas). In 1894, Henry died of Tuberuclosis and the Family lived with Bill's maternal grandfather, James Douglas. [1] In 1909, He graduated from Lowell High School and after Graduating from the San Fransisco Art Institute in 1910. Worked for the San Fransisco Chronicle alongside John and Paul Terry. He kept on illustrating for stuff until he enlisted in WWI in 1917 to serve in the 369th Infantry Regiment's branch in France. [2] After the war ended, He still continued to illustrate for Magazines, and at one point. He even illustrated for Paramount Pictures related stuff as well. Around 1941, He worked at Terrytoons as a Background Artist for 20 years, but around 1942. He registered for the Draft into WWII. Rather if he served in Combat or not is Unknown, but after that. Hilliker kept on painting Backgrounds for Terry until 1961. the same year in which old Terry staffers like Roy Halee retired and Mannie Davis quit directing cartoons. He then went to live in Beaver River, New York. and around 1984, Moved to Connecticut to be close with his Daugther. He ended up dying two years later On April 4th, 1986 in New London, Connecticut..

Personal Life[]

In 1912, He married his first wife. Katherine Prosser, Which ended up in Divorce. And in 1922, He ended up marrying Mary Dickey, which gave birth to Mary Deane Hilliker. Bill and Mary Dickey remained married until her death in 1940.
