John Gentilella 1914-1997. was an animator for Terrytoons and other animation studios
John Gentilella was born on February 12, 1914 in New York City, New York to Agdin and Carmera Gentilella, and after Graduating from the Art Students Leauge, Got his start in Van Beuren in 1932  Apparently getting hired by John Foster. Head of the Cartoon department at Van Beuren at the time.  And then rose up to the ranks from Ink and Paint artist, and later Inbetweener. But left around 1935 or 1936 to work for Fleischer Studios. Which was short lived as after a year or so, He was at Terrytoons around 1937 until 1943. In which after that, He went over to Famous Studios. In which he mainly animated on the Popeye cartoons for over 14 years until 1957/  In which after that, He later went back over to Terrytoons and stayed there until 1962-1963 in which he was back over at Famous, Later renamed Paramount Cartoon Studios. But he later went over to Hanna-Barbera around 1964-1965 but came back to New York to work for Hal Seeger and Adventure Cartoon Productions He was one of the people to animate on both the first and second Fritz The Cat movies. His last work was in 1982's Ralph Bakshi film "Hey Good Lookin'". and after that, He retired and later moved to Morrisville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania in which he died on December 23rd, 1997.
He married someone named Fanny and had a son named John Jr. in 1940, Fanny died in 1995. and John Sr's. siblings included Matthew, (1915) Carmine, (1918) Albert, (1920) Rudolph, (1922). and Thressa. (1924)
